I received my DPhil (PhD) degree from the School of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Oxford, and am currently senior lecturer of Chinese Studies at the Singapore University of Social Sciences.

My research interests include film and cultural connections between East and Southeast Asia. My first academic monograph, Amoy-dialect Cinema and Dialect Identity Transformations in Singapore and Malaya (1948-1966) (我们的电影,我们的家:厦语电影与新马厦语身份的渐变 (1948-1966年)) was published in 2020.

My second academic book project (under contract with Edinburgh University Press) focuses on the connections between Malay and Hong Kong cinemas during the post-studio era. I am interested in socially-engaged research-based work, particularly how cultural history can be re-presented in a way that reconnects communities.
